About

Workshops - Farnham Maltings.jpg

My name is Jane Warren and The Lampshade Loft is my small studio where I hand make contemporary and hand sewn lampshades using exquisite papers and fabrics which are perfectly patterned to add colour and character to your home. The papers and fabrics are sourced from all over the world as well as from emerging and celebrated designers in the UK. I am based in West Sussex near the sea.

I make my paper shades using a stunning selection of marbled, yuzen and block printed designs and I hand sew my fabric lampshades using traditional methods. At present, the lampshades for sale on this website just come in the designs listed, however if you if you are looking for a re-make, I can recommend other lampshade makers (please see my contact page).

In addition you will find a lovely collection of genuine vintage original lampshades, many from early to mid last century, all seeking a new home,

Why not come and learn how to make a lampshade yourself? its great fun, a wonderful skill to have and you don’t need any previous experience - see the workshops page for detail.

“Jane, I’m absolutely delighted with your work, it’s amazing how happy a lampshade can make me, it’s brilliant. Thank you so much for your advice and wonderful work”

My lampshades have featured in various press and media including: The Observer magazine, Surrey Life Magazine, English Home magazine, Reclaim magazine. My lampshades have appeared in Made in Chelsea, The Apprentice, and Strictly Come Dancing - and they are displayed in Cahoots bar in London. I have appeared in various blogs including HandMadeUK and Needcraft. My clients include: Daphne Roach Design, Kate Lovejoy Interiors, The House Ministry Interiors, The Guilded Cabinet, Jackie Townsend Interiors to name but a few. I teach lampshade making from my home near Chichester and also have taught at Clothkits, Minerva Workshops as well as stints at Farnham Maltings (at Thread), The Medicine Garden, The Quilting Room and other lovely venues.

I studied for my City & Guilds in Soft Furnishings and Design & Craft in Advanced level at Kingston College in 2007 where traditional lampshade making was one of the modules (I have been addicted ever since!).

I have sold many lampshades via this web shop plus as commissions too, so you can buy with confidence - please see the FAQs for helpful hints but don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you - Jane
