Traditional hand sewn lampshade workshop

traditional-lampshade-workshop.JPG

In this workshop you will learn how to make traditional hand sewn lampshades to a high professional level, including:

•Binding your lampshade frame with lampshade tape

•Positioning and tailoring your fabric (on the bias) on to your frame, pinning into place to create the perfect cover

•Learn how to make soft ‘balloon linings’ for your lampshade if required, or a demo for future use

•Hand sew your fabric cover and inner lining onto the frame

•Make hand sewn trims and bindings to finish and decorate your lampshade

There is a choice of a one day course to make an unlined lampshade (although the lining technique will be demonstrated to you) or a two day course where you will fully line your lampshade and make extra sample trims and embellishments.

Please note that there is much hand sewing and a lot to learn in making the traditional hand sewn shades and you may need to finish the making in your own time.

You will need to bring: half a meter of your own fabric - you will be using the fabric on the bias (45 degree angle) for stretch; matching colour thread; a packed lunch. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available at regular intervals!
