Welcome to the Lampshade Loft Blog

My name is Jane Warren and I love interiors - especially how they are lit up and enhanced by lovely lampshades. I make shades and teach you how to as well, so sign up and learn how to make them in your own choice of fabric.

In my blog here I offer tips on how to make the best lampshades - oversized, using paper, if to line or not and other random subjects all to do with shades!

Please read about my collaborations and inspirations on this blog, and sign up to receive my newsletter to hear more news and tips!

If you are interested in chasing a new career in the creative industry but are unsure which to choose, why not think about traditional style lampshade making? Hands on crafts are bang on trend right now, with fairs and creative workshops poppping up all over the country. The advantages of making hand sewn shades:

* you dont use much fabric! and you dont need much table space either

* you get to sew a lot - very therapuetic! and unlike a lot of soft furnishings, you hardly use a sewing machine

* you can choose the style - there are so many shapes of frames to choose from, so many fabrics and so little time to make them all!

But its important to be taught properly - these wonderful shades are made using traditional methods, where you will need to learn new sitiches, how to position the fabric, make linings and of course consider the light given by the shade when complete.

Please contact me if you would like to attend a class to learn all these skills and more - you are welcome to my home near Dorking or I can come to you! thank you.
